Something beautiful today. It was close to dusk, as I was returning to the shelter. All around the boundary zone and spreading into the swamp and out near the sea shelf, as far as I could see, water lilies! Not really lilies, of course, but something very similar. They floated atop the water, a vast field of them. Their petals – they had nine – were a violet blue with white streaks, and they had 3 brilliant green leaves laid out across the water surface, helping keep them afloat, it seems. They ranged in size from about a half to a full meter across. They just sat there, bobbing on the surface. I have no idea where they came from, I saw nothing to indicate that there were plants growing there before now. So many of them so quickly! Could they be like the desert ephemerals on Earth?
As the parent went below the horizon, these flowers emitted a soft glow from their petals, and in the night-glow I could see that each petal was slightly transparent. Beautiful and ethereal. I’ll call them Glowlies.
